California's most intractable problems: What can our legislature do to fix them, and how can we help?

WIL is proud to present State Senator Catherine S. Blakespear, from California's 38th Senate District. We loved hearing from her in 2022 and we're thrilled to have her back this month.
California is facing many problems: homelessness, sky-high housing costs, the impacts of climate change, the disaster of Trump's cut to healthcare financing... The list seems endless, and the problems seem overwhelming.
Catherine has been on the frontlines in the California Senate for almost three years, working on all these problems, and others. Most recently, she held her Third Annual Ending Homelessness Summit. You can learn more about the bills she has authored this year by visiting the legislation page on her website.
Please join us for this important conversation about California's pressing problems with one of the women leading the fight to address them.
Catherine began her professional life as a journalist for prestigious outlets including the LA Times. She then went on to get a law degree and was an estate planning attorney. In 2014, she was elected to the city council of Encinitas, and went on to serve as mayor of that city from 2016 to 2022.
Catherine was endorsed by WIL when she ran for State Senate in 2022, and will be up for reelection next year. She won in 2022 by about 4 percentage points. WIL plans to help make sure she wins again in 2026.
