WIL is honored to welcome our own

US Representative Katie Porter for our July 31st lunch

Katie won a bruising battle in California’s 45^th Congressional District over anti-choice Mimi Walters.  This win was part of an historic sweep by pro-reproductive rights Representatives in Orange County - previously deep red territory.  She is the first Democrat to be elected in the 45^thDistrict.  The district covers much of south-central Orange County, and includes Irvine, Tustin, and Lake Forest along with large slices of Anaheim and Laguna Niguel. WIL, along with a massive turnout of women and others sick of Trump’s war against women, enthusiastically supported her. 

Katie is a Professor of Law at the UCI School of Law (currently on leave) where her field of expertise is consumer law.  While at UCI, she was appointed to be California’s independent monitor of banks in a nationwide $25 billion mortgage settlement, overseeing the banks’ implementation of the settlement.

Katie grew up in Iowa, attended Yale University as an undergraduate and Harvard Law School.  At Harvard, she studied under Elizabeth Warren and graduated magna cum laude.

WIL hopes to be able to support Katie for many years, but for that, we need your help to make certain she is reelected.  Katie is one of the top targets for defeat by the angry anti-choice minority, who seems to believe it is their divine right to control the 45^th.  She will need your enthusiasm, funds and time to make sure that the 45^th continues to have a Representative that brings us all a feeling of pride and optimism.
