WE ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE:
OUR LONG-TIME FRIEND, TWO-TIME WIL ENDORSED CANDIDATE, AND TWO-TERM CALIFORNIA STATE SUPERINTENDENT OF
PUBLIC INSTRUCTION
DELAINE EASTIN
WILL SPEAK AT THE WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP LUNCH ON MAY 17TH
Perhaps you recall when she spoke to us during her tenure as the first woman to serve as the California State Superintendent of Public Instruction. She was a smash hit with her common-sense approach to both education in California and how to survive as a woman in the often hostile world of politics. Now she is on the Board of Directors of “Close the Gap CA”, a group dedicated to increasing the number of progressive women serving in the California Legislature. Perhaps you read the recent newspaper article that the number of women in the California legislature has been decreasing. In 2003, California ranked 5th in number of women in the State Legislature. Now it’s 20th. Statistics seem to indicate that when women run, they win in approximately the same percentage as men. But they just aren’t running. Delaine will discuss current politics in Sacramento and what we can do to help get more pro-choice women elected in California.
