DON'T MISS MICHELE GOODWIN, UCI Professor of Law
She's speaking on Monday, August 10 on “The Accelerating Erosion of Women’s Reproductive Rights.” Her research on gender and reproductive rights paints an appalling picture that we who support women’s rights need to understand so we can prepare to fight back.
Michele Goodwin is the Chancellor’s Professor of Law at UCI and also holds appointments in the UCI Departments of Public Health and Gender and Sexuality Studies. She is a nationally recognized scholar in the fields of reproductive justice, human trafficking and the role of law in science, medicine and biotechnology. She has written dozens of articles and books, including her soon-to-be-published book, Policing the Womb, a chilling study of how some U.S. states, going far beyond merely trying to stop poor women from obtaining abortions, are now using criminal laws as a tool to incarcerate, punish and humiliate poor pregnant women. Dr. Goodwin is a remarkable speaker who provides fascinating and disturbing information about the many ways women’s reproductive rights are being eroded throughout the country.
