BETTY YEE, California’s Newly Elected Controller
“How I Became One of California’s Top Female Office Holders; How We Can Elect More Women; and How We Can Prepare for California’s Financial Future”
We are proud to have endorsed Betty in her run for Controller last fall. You will find her to be open, bright and honest, plus she’s an outstanding speaker. Betty is a native of San Francisco, born to immigrant parents who ran a laundry and dry cleaning business there for 30 years. Betty grew up speaking no English at home. When not in school, she worked the counter of her parents’ business, dealing with customers and translating for her parents, as well as assisting them with financial transactions - early lessons that helped her in her current job of running California’s finances.

Betty graduated from UC Berkeley and has spent 30 years in public service in local and state finance. Before becoming Controller, she was on the California Board of Equalization, where she, among other accomplishments, established state tax equity for same-sex couples. She has been a life-long advocate for women’s and civil rights.
Betty is Vice President of California Women Lead, an organization established to help women holding or interested in running for political office. Thus her interests and goals for women in politics ties in perfectly with WIL’s.
We’re proud that our endorsed candidate is now holding one of the highest offices in the State. Considering that she’s a “numbers” person, she’s amazingly gregarious and easy to understand. Don’t miss our good friend in Sacramento, Betty Yee.
